I went and asked some people what they all thought of war?
They said to me, just pain and fear; and what’s the fighting for?
They said they felt the suffering within their hearts and soul
And felt for all the innocents; for which deaths bell would toll

There were tears from one just quiet as she thought of days gone by
How the hand of war just brushed, the tears that mothers cry
How soldiers with their heads held high with fear took devils path
To die or look on back one day on war and aftermath

They fight a countries battle but each face they do not see
They drop a bomb, but with that bomb, how many now are free?
Their prayers bring not redemption or the warm arm known as peace
But a calmness and acceptance and a way for souls release

I think that war is killing, but a part of human kind
And no matter what the reasons, an excuse I cannot find
For the cancer to humanity is the leaders who vote war
And war does bring on killing, as the war and war before

We live with things we cannot change, but they can pain the heart
And history does not forget when wars and death depart
We’ll go on hoping that there’s peace and that the world stays free
And that each woman and each man finds love that’s meant to be

I thanked them for their time and words; they thanked me for my care
I shook their hands and wished them well, the few that gathered there
I said may there be peace with you, you all and all your friends
Please say one extra pray tonight, a pray that war it ends

I am sceptical that war will bring permanent peace especially in this region..it all points to self-interests and economical designs. Thanks for writing this with a clear
conscience.

WhiteRose, thank you for your reply, I hope it also to be so.

Balladeer, I appreciate your reply and kind words, thank you.

the_loner_23, thanks for your reply, may peace come back our way soon.

ecrivan, your reply I appreciate, I too am sceptical, hate lives within people as fighting which again might lead to war, comes down to the greed of mankind. Thanks for your reply.

DawnG, I am glad you enjoyed the words, I have enjoyed your reply, thank you.

Very eloquent, Rick. The sad part is that most great movements forward in the history of the world have occured with bloodshed... Perhaps one day, people will just begin to get along, and this won't be necessary again.
Chalk up one more vote for this.

(big hugggssssssss) I too think war solves none of the worlds problems, dearest friend, I too pray this absurd war ends soon as it will only create balkanization, lasting scars of violence and despair, and, like you said, the idea of a "democracy" in Iraq is all in self-interest and perhaps more utopian than world peace! (sad sigh) I can't stand what the Bush Administration is doing and am against Bush and Blair very much and think we need new rulers that are "capable" of feeling for others worldwide, God Bless You, this is heartfelt, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Rick, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

This poem is constructed in such as way as to engrave the anti-war theme in the minds and hearts of its readers. Its tone is emotive, but not excessively so: it exudes just the right degree of emotion through the use of "talking the talk" through the mouth of a third person (the woman in the first stanza)and per medium of plain speech couched in an appropriate amount of figurative language. It comes across as heart-felt and sincere without being jingoistic or preachy. Good work, Rick; I share the sentiments that shine out from this theme and have voted accordingly.

Nicely done.

I avoided this one for a bit as I was fearful of its theme and possible replies.  Glad to know the poem what heartfelt and well written.  I was also pleased that the majority of the replies addressed the work and the quality of the work and didn't delve degrde into an anti/pro war discussion (sadly a few couldn't seem to keep those opinions to themselves).

You've obviously worked hard on this piece and your work deserves the respect of a response to it and not the theme.  I enjoyed it, and apologize for my pontificating...

Dear JP, thank you so much for your reply, you can preach all you like, I don't mind, I have my feelings and I try to share them with you all, we are all individuals, we all have different thoughts and ways of life, it is good to hear the other side from time to time, if gives us a bearing on where we are. Hope to see you visit again, your replies are always appreciated.
