If but One

If but one heart
touched by sun
would be set
to run, and run,

like an electric
current is done..
as if one heart
was touched by sun…

then would I
look farther, still
to see if another
would be fulfilled…?

If one heart,
a pair of eyes,
might see in part,
and realize

that truth, foreseen,
as words, displayed,
the truth of dream,
a whim, parlayed…

if but one mind,
calmed by thought,
as if, in find,
a dreamwisp, caught,

then circle ‘round
the truth in stark
and settle down
with meadowlarks…

If but one, caught,
could foresee
the truth of real,
harsh veracity

then whisper faint,
a sweet, I do…
the skies would tint
if that one was you.
