Although the days of an abusive marriage and Christmas' spent cowering in fear are long since far behind me, Christmas each year seems to bring back memories of those days I thought I'd left in the past. Every Christmas awakens nightmares and the joyfulness is dimmed by their memories. Perhaps one day in the not so distance future, Christmas will have a life of it's own, until such day, the past, present and future will have to intermend.
Once again, I'd like to thank those here who've seen me through those times, you know who you are and to everyone else, best wishes for a Merry Christmas. God Bless you all.

Of Christmas Past, Present, and Future

It’s Christmas

and we celebrate the day

laying in each other’s arms,

legs intertwined, talking

about Christmas’ to come;

while I try to forget

Christmas’ past.

The memories of shouted words

and hands raised in anger

are now only a dull ache

where once the wounds seeped

with bitterness.

He wipes away a tear

that has found its way

from my brimming eyes

to land in a puddle upon his cheek

and pulls me closer

to kiss away the drops before they fall.

Somehow, he instinctively knows

where my mind is,

although he’s only shared those memories

through my words.

“Shhh..,” he whispers,

“let’s think about the future.”

But in the present,

safe within his arms,

I let the tears fall;

washing away the pain

and think of this Christmas

as a time of healing.

Ruth, sweet Lady, I'm sorry that you had an abusive marriage in the past, but I'm so glad that you have someone to share happiness with in the present. (just as I am glad that I now have........
