how long does love last I've wondered often
7 years?
more?
will the pain ever soften?

no I decide
but tonight I found closure

sitting with friends
eating pizza
drinking beer
opening gifts early because we can

door bell rings
I stroll as well as I can
and the smile died on my lips with the look of your face

you bastard
after 7 stupid years you knock on my door
and the first thing you say is
" Merry Christmas Enchant..... "

I remain silent
though my soul screams violence

" Sam and Igot a divorce
can I come in
its kinda cold out here
maybe we could talk
over a coke or a beer "

your body is the same
as I know it well
but your eyes
they speak volumes
of a personal hell
and I wish I'd been stupid enough
again
to let you in
but
instead
I kindly ask you off my porch

bastard
the nerve
after all these years
you were married
you lied
you made me your whore

I whispered

as I closed my front door
" the names not Enchant anymore...... "

Just a little while ago my best friend and I finished burning all your old things in the burn barrel out back....and I'll never write or ponder over you again.

I guess it was because I was just 16 almost 17, he was almost 30 and I was willing to believe anything and everything he said was the truth....he didnt marry until about a yr after we had started " dating " and she lived in the next town over in an apartment he paid for, drove a car he paid for, God, how blind....those weekend trips with friends just for the guys, never meeting his family....how he avoided things like that...I can see it now....I've been able to see it for yrs...and it haunts me....he married her on one of those " week get-aways- with the guys " they ran off to Florida and wed while visting Disney World...he came and took all his stuff out of my apartment while I was at work one afternoon.....and when I called his mother to find out where he was....she told me about his new wife....his mother didn't even know my name....and out of nowhere he comes by after looking me up from my sister...to let me know he was divorced....and wanting to talk... I wanted to wring his neck but instead I just shut the door...sometimes you just have to shut the door....

Nature has a funny way of breaking that which will not bend....Jewell
