Moved from a shack to a barn

I was sitting at the bar
Chatting with the Mayor
(The owner, you see)

When our city’s new
Chief of Police
Sat himself beside me
And engaged the Mayor
In municipal matters

I returned my attention
Back to my whiskey
And tried very hard
Not to eavesdrop
Too much

But, after a bit
The Chief and the Mayor
Bade me participate
In a general discussion
On nothing of note

When I had gauged
The meter and manner
Of the new chief’s demeanor
I offered a poser

“Just how might a fella
Get a copy of a mugshot
Taken of him
When he was younger
And foolish"

He replied that he couldn’t
Think of a reason
That it couldn’t be done
“But, why in the world
Would I want such a thing?”

“Actually” I said
As he drank from his mug
“I was thinking about sending
A few Christmas cards”

Thus, causing the Chief
An undignified spew.

I could offer one for every holiday to mark 30 years of wild eyed growth, but to ask now would be to add to the collection. Enjoyed the sense of humor.
