The wind carried paper in its icy cold grip, Candy wrappers and pretty valentines of red, But it lashed through thin cotton clothing like a whip And ripped the broad brimmed battered blue hat from her head. She smiled at the passerby cars that slowed to gawk, As her skirt danced around her white legs so icy cold That the wind massaged to numbness as she did walk, Hoping for the warmth of buyers to whom she sold. The cars seldom slowed and none were stopping to talk Numb legs were shaky moving and about to fold Then the slanted sidewalk cold coated made her slip. There upon the ground She finally cried ice tears With sad sobbing sound. A car stopped by her And invited her enter Where it was warmer She gracelessly pulled her frozen self to her feet, Walked over and climbed into the waiting black car Just happy to at last get off the windy street, No thinking about the hands of a predator, No worry about anything but her warming once more, Everything was gone even her body was sold, No wonder of tomorrow or what was in store Only the moment and escaping from the cold. Noticing things around her with in the back car Then returned to the profession so very old But this was something less and yet was something more. There at the motel She sleepily into bed fell And he bid her well. But touching her not In that place where she’d been brought, Was not what he sought. She woke up the next morning, Strange dreams in her head swarming On the bed stand was money But she had not earned any And there was more than plenty Her heart and soul was warming. The new day begun Her new life begun February 14th Gloom |

Professor, Not gloomy! I like this tale so much. And, you sure lead me on, thinking the worse was about to happen. Imagery great. "The slanted sidewalk cold coated"... I like that... Wonderful fairy tale ending... Perfect for today. Enjoyed, Pat ..without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.. |

OH,Prof, the ending of this is so beautiful. I could just see the poor girl (woman) standing on the street. You told this so good. I'm really glad that it ended the way it did...... |
