What Iambe Told Kristie Sue |

We sat facing each other After she had washed her hands And twisted ice out of a plastic tray Into two glasses. She broke the seal on the Scary Smooth And poured us each a half a tumbler Then picked hers up and downed a half Sitting back then with a sigh She asked how I knew about her And I told her Jake had mentioned his sister And how she could fix anything When I ran into to him one night At a bar. Iambe smiled slightly “Well… I understand you may need some time to pay off the damages.” She said “so here is what I’ll do” “I’ll get it towed and take a look, if it is too much we’ll talk about best choices, if it is a simple fix, I’ll let you pay it out.” “Thank you.” Was all I could really say. Iambe’s glass was empty So she filled both I drank a good half of mine in relief And sat back letting the slow easy burn Begin to build in my belly “Who’s Travis?” I asked not thinking I might be stepping on quicksand Just remembering Jake saying something about Him and Iambe had been a pair. She turned those eyes on me then And I saw the easy hardness of them chill “ He was a fellow I knew.” Her gaze shifted to the window And the focus of her eyes seemed to shift From the things in front of her to someplace Behind her now. “ Sometimes he and I had good times sometimes we had bad ones.” She continued. “He’s a strange one you know.” “Part stranger to himself and part friend to me.” “You ever see him or Jake, you tell them I’d like for him to come home.” “ I need to know if he ever learned to dance.” I gulped the other half of my tumbler Nodded I would, and asked her about Jake While I filled my tumbler and hers again. “Let’s go sit outside.” She replied to my question, “and bring that bottle and the other one from the counter.” We sat and drank She talked a bit about Jake and cars Old Bob’s Dodge, skinny dipping, and dancing. I listened until the stars spun And wondered if I’d ever know if he had learned to dance and what she would do if he had. [This message has been edited by Cpat Hair (02-11-2003 04:48 PM).] |

Loner... thank you glad you got a chuckle out of it.. Sinshine.. drive a what? Cor..where were was it confusing? I'll see if I can't fix it.. thank all... Iambe just seemed to surface... dang her hide anyway..now I got to get rid of her again... ( chuckling) |

nancy... anyone exposed to me for any length of time is subject to periodic fits of crazy... my own brand of insanity seems to indeed cause stress in others for some reason. ( chuckling) as for the pieces belonging in a book..it would be a pretty boring read..and I doubt a publisher is interested in written sleeping tablets... but thank you very kindly for the words.. always appreciated. |

Hair...I'm only foolin' about the Prozac....I start every morning with a healthy breakfast, (a cupple of Valiums and a shot of scotch)....then, for lunch, I drink a few beers and eat a cupple of pain pills, (preventive medicine don't ya know...just in case I should get hurt later in the day).....then, for dinner, I knock out a few beers, (just to be social of course)....I remember years ago when my "then" wife stated: "Toe, aren't you drinking a little more than usual?"...I told her that was humanly impossible....I took her down to the docks in New Orleans at night to see all the lights across the water....there was a cargo ship unloading Chevis Regal Scotch, she told me: "Yassee Toe?..You're never gonna drink them out of that Scotch"...I told her that's for sure, but I do have those suckers working nights. well..I do my part to keep them working nights as well. No reason to cut back I say, with the economy in the shape it is, if I was to cut back those fellows working nights might not have a job. I try to take a global view of these things, and do what I can to keep the economy going and am working hard to make sure that the spiritual neds of everyone are taken care of. After all, show me a religion that doesn't need a sinner to point at... and someone has to be that sinner...  Now.as for me causing you to go down this path you've chosen and being perfectly normal before you started reading my stuff... maybe I better get some trial studies set up to see if all my writing should carry a warning label... "Warning, reading this material may cause blindness. Laboratory studies have shown exposure to this material increase the risk of self inflicted blindness. Results vary, but users report a loss of desire to read , sudden urges to put their own eyes out, and increased drug and alchohal consumption." Of course..the studies may well show additional side effects such as temporary insanity, headaches, sexual side effect..and such. have to wait for them to be completed though to say for sure.. Yea, I know..my conscience gets me too...here in Alabama, the beer/liquor taxes are pretty high...but the taxes go to schools and property taxes....I quit drinking for a month....school lunches went up 25 cents and property taxes went up one percent...so I entered "Re-tox"... |

I do applaud your sense of social duty. Not many of us left that would act so unselfishly..sacrificing their health and mental stability just to keep the school system up and running. Lot of pressure on you bud..I think you need to be training an assistant to not only carry on the work you have started but also to take some of the load off you. After all, you do need to be able to relax once in a while..you know sit back, kick your feet up on a stool...and enjoy a cold one without the pressures and expectations of keeping the social fiber of community intact. I honestly don't know which I enjoyed more... the poem or the dialog between you and Toe. *G* (And as for who's responsible for what, can I just say I think you're both rather wonderful... don't change? *G*) Knowing Iambe and her strong will, didja honestly think you could tuck her away and ignore her? LOL That gal's got a life of her own... and I'm sure glad she pushes your pen. *S* |
