This is not my reflection
so now lined in age
with circled eyes
"Fool", she said,
"You are eroded clay."

"Then I can be molded, fired in kiln and given glaze." I replied.

She laughed
and with the sneer of lip spat at me.
"You are not even fine clay, you hold the rot
of root and leaf."

"Then I might be enriched and grow seeds planted in me." I hoped.

Her amusement grew...
"You can not breathe and all placed in your depths will be sterile."

"Look again in the mirror and at your life."
"Do you see any beauty left in you?"

"no' I replied softly
"you leach that from me each time we speak."

I felt her sigh
" Maybe next time, you'll get it right."

Though not meant to be this is
a~muse~ing...for all it's worth.

Wow! Very well written and sarcasm at it's best...("You leach that from me each time we speak")  AND, heart-breaking as well....what one can do to another. Sad! Very, very painful

Lots of touching, thinking, feeling here..and hope this is not a real experience. Can't remember title exactly but it referenced muse??sick??
Do you mean quite a song????

Enjoyed, Pat

I personally think the earthy compost heap holds the most promise.

This made my stomach hurt, like having the wind knocked out of you...slowly.
Different, I like it.

This had a strange quality to it that made it appealing. Perhaps because reading over it, the reader is wondering which one they would be (although people are often inclined to believe they are a victim). If perhaps the one led to the other. There's an earthly reality to this like the root and the leaf. Now where did they come from? And how did they get there?

Hmm... don't ask me. I don't know why she thinks the way she does.

Much enjoyed.

thanks for you kind words..all of you.

There are days I would not hear her voice in my head...days I would have her silenced forever. (chuckling) It must be borderline madness to hear the words whispered to you always...every time you pause there be a gibe from them telling you how little you can say..how foolish you are for writing things down or seeing the images..and trying to write them... so yes..even in the shower my muse stalks me...and it not a haunt as much as a stalking..always there when you turn around..spinning lines from technical conversations having no poetic value or inspiration other than this...inner ear searching for the perfect timbre..the pure tonal understanding of it...

See... it is madness...

anyone want a highly demanding muse? Take mine...
I could use the vacation.. ( chuckling)

like the sculptor who turns clay into treasured keepsakes...you the poet turns those voices into poetic gold...

try as she might...thy pen is mighter than thy muse.

and if she'll let me write with the soul of Iambe...I'll take her off your hands for a bit...but you and I both know...youd miss her after awhile

smile.

Yours is the only muse I ever heard of that wears leather and carries a whip...

I know a couple of men who would actually be jealous.

and as for "getting it right?" You just did.

Shhh! Did you hear it?  I just broke a symbolic jar of clay in your honor.  Maybe you should do the same, being careful, of course, where you aim.

I don't know whether to call mine a muse or a stalking muse..but I am never at a loss for words, in thinking or in writing.

and I am thankful for that, as they keep me company

I think your muse is teasing you sir. She is doing this to make you write of her more often..she's very vain!!

See how many poems lately have been directed at her? Don't you think SHE plans it this way????
