As much as anyone does
in this world
I love togetherness
love
peace
and I hate disagreements
discord
war

but.....
there are many in our
world who don't
love peace
Those people want power in any way
or by whatever means
they can get it
so...
there is
WAR

and....
From the way some are talking
and behaving, it's making me think
of the way things were in
years
past

When many of our men, our women,
our troops
were sent to a place
jungles,
full of diseases
with terrible conditions that only
they who were there
know

When returned
those men, women, our troops
were not treated like
they should have been
treated

so, this time
let us please  NOT  repeat
history
let us give our troops
support
Let us stand behind them
no matter what happens
or where they go
while they are
defending
our country
US...me
and
you

Please let us stand together
and be
ONE  NATION,
UNDER  GOD

Please let it be true
UNITED  WE  STAND
Please

At first, when I began reading this, I thought I would reply just on the content and how much I agree with it...however, as I continued to read on, I became much impressed with how the content was formulated and expressed. Well done and enjoyable to read.

Ethel, I wasn't sure I wanted to reply to any war poems that were for or against..but
I decided to read yours and say that I hope this time, too, that we support our troops and country.

Maureen, I was feeling the same way, because it's
so depressing...and it's really easy for me to
get depressed lately. But, I started thinking about
how things were during the Vietnam war, and I
decided to write this. I still think those
Veterans haven't been treated right.
They did  fight for our country.

Anyway, that's just my opinion.
thanks for reading and replying to mine....

With love and hugs from

The thing I love about poetry is that so much can be said...with such grace and beauty.
Here is proof.

Ethel, Having lived through VietNam, I am definitely supportive of our troops, it's Bush that I'm not standing behind. But if given the chance to get behind him, I'd give him a swift kick in the arse all the way back to TX.

I know, Marti, but people felt that way about
Vietnam and then took it out on the troops. I
know you aren't that way, but so many in our
world are. That's what I've been thinking about.

I hate war, but I'm terrified that's what's
going to happen....and very soon. In fact, I
wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't turn into
another world war...then we will all be wiped away....

If war is bound to happen, there is nothing we can do to stop it. I give thanks to God for all the people who have the courage to stand up and fight for our country - my brother being one of them - because without them, where would we be?
Very good write.

Very true, Blue Eyes.......where would we be?
I also thank God for all of them.
My prayers are with you and your brother, as
well as all our other brave men and women who
will have to be out there if there's combat.

We could probably have a hundred million political debates and not get anywhere. But the fact is, Ethel, that you are right--there are people who are giving up so much for us. And they need our support.

Benjamin, I feel the same way. Most times the
political debates only cause more hate and discord to spread.
In the meantime, our troops are out there not really
knowing what's going to happen to them.....
standing by and obeying orders...

Thank you for responding to my opinion...

(big hugggssssssssss) Oh Ethel, though I didn't grow up during that era, I have read and heard all about how so many soldiers had emotional breakdowns because of the horrors they saw and the disrespect they got even coming back to their own homes and the domestic violence some committed and the depression just because their lives were in shackles! (sad sigh) I hate war, and have been this week making a huge anti-war poetry campaign, and of course many do want us to go to war so I may have no choice but to pray for the soldiers! (sad sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Ethel, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Noah,
I also hate war, but it looks as though that's
right were we're headed. And in this I'm just saying
that our troops are getting prepared to do whatever
they have to do to defend us and our country.
I'm just afraid that because there's such a debate
over what our country should do, that many people
might treat the ones who are fighting for us...our country
negatively. That's a very terrible thing if that happens.

In the 50's there was Korea and we lived in fear an built bomb shelters, the 60's introduced a confussed generation to Viet Nam,Now we deal with our involvment in the middle east.I was born in 1950 and my thanks and support go out to all who have fought to defend freedom in whatever means they could since.Of coarse the same goes for our vets of earlier conflicts as well.Sometimes the only thing that makes sense to me is the old proverb'It's as it should be.Good write, appreciated I'm sure.
