The Chosen – The Snow Dragons Prelude

In the beginning, there was nothing, and everything
There was neither heaven, nor earth
Sunshine was unknown, unneeded
For they had never known darkness
It was the time of the ancients
A time of mystery and magic
Of mystics who lived in dreams
And the eons reigned peace upon their children
These ones they called “the chosen”

But as is often the way of men
There was one misguided who bled desire
To be what no man could be
And that one became two, and the two four…
And they did covet the dreams of other men
And so it began, this discontentment of man
The dreams of men began to fade
And the ancients began to wither
Deprived of their refuge, their existence
And a shadow appeared across the land

The dark cloud forged outwards from the west
Expelled from the barren wastelands
Erupting into shards of crimson terror
Consuming all who dared to challenge
Those free minded souls, steadfast and proud
A pitiful resistance cast aside and emptied into the fury
Their souls fed the darkness as surely as paper feeds a fire

The chosen, now divided, battled among themselves to possess the dream
Neither sentient that it was a war already lost to all
Their very existence in peril from their own demons
That evil that was loosed from the minds of man
The ancients, left forlorn and forced to take worldly form
To save their children from themselves
And so from the last remnants of mans virtue
The ancients descended, and the Guardians were born

Large, fierce, winged creatures with a breath of flame
With death black eyes and a skin bleach grey
They cleansed the lands, and then the minds of men
They left all reminder, gave man the day and the night
Their breath gave us the mist as a chill swept the land
Twelve guardians left, to watch over the soul of man
And through the sands of time like sentinels they stand…
