Wave broke upon the sand littered it with human wreckage The frayed aftermath of a promised land lost I remember watching as fires burned like pyres The funeral of a generation they'd found was never really theirs Corporations had stolen and sold it back early on And they'd bought it Packaged revolution Children of the information age They'd armed themselves with enough knowledge and cynicism to deem themselves gods Dancing in the new temple High priests, robes ever changing ripped jean and goatees Airwalks and Beasties Nike and Fubus They'd found the grail but drank instead the eternal youth of Pepsi and lost sight of the goal, if ever there'd been one Lost it in new Doc Marten's Lost it in flannel uniforms Lost it cruising in reincarnated Volkswagon Beetles Puppets to advertising billions Pierced and tatooed medals of honour in an unholy war against an enemy whose name they'd already forgotten They didn't even notice the music that set them marching in the first place had melted into one A perfect lie mass produced and shipped to hungry hordes that desperately wanted something to believe in Because even though it's beginnings were pure purity is a commodity to be exploited Nothing is sacred And that truth finally hit as the fires burned a Woodstock illusion A grimmer reflection of Altamount and the death of hope ---------------------------------------------------- A poem dedicated to the 90's which had all the potential of the 60's but crashed an burned much faster and harder. I know you're thinking, for a guy who's in exile he sure won't shut up today. Consider the exile over, you've all helped me through the roughest part. Thanks again! as a child of the 60's , i wasnt sure \those 90s brats had enough heart to finish what lots of us left hanging it comes in cycles though, and it will hopefully, reemerge in greater numbers again, instaed of mere glimmers of it here and there as mothers, we have to instill it in our kids early on, and that's all i can leave when i go |

Thank K, as long as he doesn't dance the funky chicken Many thanks Enchantress very kind of you to say nakd thanks for the compliment is it any wonder a tarry here Inked in defense of us 90's brats those 60's hipster's never finished either, the hippie's became yuppies and that sad truth disillusioned a lot of their kids. I hope the next time it works out too and if i have to be here on this planet i hope i get to see it. |

Serenity's shaman will never dance the funky chicken...[small laugh and knowing smile...] I'm so glad you have decided that the exile is over, and that you've come back to share, Raph...with one hundred originating posts, you leave us thinking, a true sign of a good poet... and with almost 1000 posts...you have read others and shared your thoughts on their experiences... I'm glad you're home. |
