The Flood Dissaster: 50 years ago

They thought the dikes would protect them
Against the water of the swept up sea
But they miscalculated it's full strength
When the dikes broke and it was running free

So many people got surprised
By the level it had reached that night
They took shelter in the attics
And saw the disaster at dawn's light

Many houses had disappeared completely
The sea took 1835 lifes that night
Tomorrow it will be fifty years ago now
That whole families got out of sight

I wasn't living here at that time
But I remember it like it was yesterday
Because we had some refugees
In our house to stay

Tomorrow we all will remember
All those who lost their lifes that night
Swept off roofs and plucked from trees
I will burn a candle and reflect in soft light

If you want to see what this is about, go to this link and it will show you

Thank you Titia for sharing, we too remember the flood. My husband lived in Koudekerke and about a month before this disaster happened they moved to Barneveld.

It was a tragedy for many, many people, and my thoughts are with those who lost everything that night.

((hugs))

That was so sad, I went to the link you put there and saw what a disaster that was.  My heart sure goes out to those families Titia.
