A Tom Petty style ballad.

In the breakers misty blow
the same old heartache strikes again
a heavy swelling in my throat
far away from tender hands.
In a sure way I'll stay cold
on a windswept deck away
from the memories big and bold
of a golden yesterday.
A piece of heaven in my soul
turns to memories of the past
where a distant fire glows,
a love light candle calls me back.

In the breaker's misty blow
the same old heartache fills my eyes
In the breaker's misty blow
A voice is calling from the brine.

Here I stand alone again
ten thousand sailed miles away
with a cold and restless wind
blowing on my tear stained face.
Echoes roaming through my mind
of loving times at port of call
with the girl I left behind
on the shores of Montreal.
There's no lighthouse to be found
no immigration made for me
away from her I'm ocean bound
sailing on a cold gray sea.

In the breakers misty blow
the same old heartache fills my eyes.
In the breakers misty blow
I'll leave the light that fills the sky.

My co-writer(Conner D. Smith) and close friend, the man singing this song, just passed away after a long bout with cancer. Needless to say I'm feeling blue and depressed....thanks for listening for he was the kindest down to earth friend and I love to present this to people that don't even know him as a tribute to his great talent. He was a gifted composer and went out of his way to help fellow musicians grow and hone their songwriting skills.
Please feel free to visit this site and click on MP3 music and vote for this song as it will help expose his talent in memorium.
Sincerely

Eric True

Eric...its sooo good to have you back here...I have missed you me poet pal.
The song is a lovely legacy to your friend and to your love of music and sharing.
I'm listening to Jessie's Day as I type this...and you KNOW I will be checking out all the song samples on your site...it is so cool to get to hear the words set to music and given voice to fly. Thank you for sharing both the music and your friend Conner with us. God speed.

If made to choose between the power of writing a poem
or the ecstasy of a poem unwritten I would choose ecstasy
In the end it is better poetry

Hey you...first of all hugs to you on your loss. We take little baby steps to go on, yes?

And this IS truly Tom Petty style...and Tom always did have a "Dylanesque" quality to my ear.

I will save this, as when I have the time, I would love to hear more. (and oooh, yes, I wanted to hear a bit of harmonica in there, but I'll not quibble! )

love to you eric. Write me some time...

(tears fall down my cheeks) Oh Eric, I'm so sorry to hear of your friends loss, it can sting so much as a friend is like a blood brother, and to pay my homage to both you and your gifted friend, I am going there right now to vote for him so his heart can be remembered through song! I appreciate the comments so very much.

You vote by clicking on the link on the main page that says MP3 music
The list of songs will come up and in the block pertaining to each song there's a small link in the lower right hand corner that says 'your vote'  'hot flop'  Here's hoping you'll click on hot....smile

Dad asked me to bump this up to answer the questions about voting......I also think it's a cool song and it's so sad Conner's gone.
