Jake and I got back into town
a day earlier
than expected
as the look on Katy’s face
reflexively betrayed.

She hadn’t known
how she was going to get herself
out of this one,
had only thought she had
one more day.

Clatter of breakfast rush
a second before,
silence replaced, or
was it only in my mind?
I felt the descent
seconds before
it began to make sense.

I hadn’t noticed the truck
with out of state plates
parked across the street
when we pulled up.

In a town where nothing changes
it’s easy not to notice
when the ripples
of a slow, easy river
shift against the moon.

It’s easy not to notice
until you see it in her eyes.

.......
.......

With Thanks to Ron for writing women that never fail to inspire me.

Cool piece, Sea's right, ye rock.

Beneath, there is more beneath, but, what is there in the end?  More beneath?  Or something more?

hmmm..... The husband's side of "Bridges Of Madison County," perhaps....

Nicely done, with a light touch and a feeling for feelings. This is the kind of work I hoped to find when I stumbled into this forum.
