Love is poison
and a nectar.
A healing salve
on wounds it made.
An angry word
among new beds.
An easing touch
on freezing blade.

Love is poison

A black-ice burn
in softened stare.
A lullaby
sung to the sun.
A calling down
within a prayer.

Love is poison
and a nectar.
It cramps your body,
stains your plate.
Like sugar drops --
your tasted lips.
It dampens days.
Its light leaves late.

Love is poison
and a nectar.
A freshened mark
on skin it knit.
A thrilling word
within old beds.
A want and wait
in hope's transit.
