I glimpsed the beauty of a rose
Extended in a graceful pose
As you presented it to me
And two hearts beat in harmony

I felt the wind, soft summer’s day
I held your hand and begged you stay
Then caught the love light in your eyes
As lips on mine encaptured sighs

~

I glimpsed the beauty of a rose
Four months gone by since you'd proposed
You, debonair, in tux with tails
And I in satin bridal veil

I felt the wind, soft summer’s day
In wedding gown and lace bouquet
I pledged my vows, I said, “I do”
And promised up my life to you

~

I glimpsed the beauty of a rose
In solemn silence, head reposed
It’s petals opening to view
As casket hid last sight of you

I felt the wind, soft summer’s day
When clouded skies turned light to gray
I cast the dirt with tear filled eyes
There in the graveyard, sad good-byes

Beautiful, Ruth! For a title, how about "Rose Everlasting" or "Everlasting Rose", or something like that?

A hoot of a read. Thanks. I like the rhyming of 'day' with 'bouquet'.

It's amazing I won. I was running against peace, prosperity, & incumbency.

(sigh) Oh Ruth, this is so beautiful, sweet friend, this made me cry to imagine two lovers holding hands with a promise symbolized in the form of a rose! (kiss on cheek) I'd say From The Calyx To The Bumblebee is a pretty title, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Ruth, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

This is really so very sadly beautiful and I never know if this is a current experience; if so, may you know continued strength and peace....and even if not, it is real enough to touch the hardest heart...I love it.
Anyone who can write so wonderfully well can come up with a title, but it is a neat challenge to let the idea and various titles mull through my mind. I pass, and only want to say I enjoy your writing a great deal.

Thanks, Pat

How beautiful this was in it's sadness.  You wrote it well, and it touched me.  A lifetime of love and then loss.  Thanks for the read.

Beautiful writing as always, Ruth. How about Life's Bouquet?

The poem is excellent

Rose Repose, Petals Of My Soul, Glimpse of a Rose, Roses are Blue, Wilting Rose,...and so on - and just a beautiful poem depicting the fresh to wilting rose of life.
