Things are going to dawn on me one day. I know this…. I am going to experience a terrible, rude awakening. I’ve wasted my entire life… Staring into space… not listening… …Staring at screens…. Inhibiting my thought process as much as possible. Once I’m finally alone… I will finally know… Trouble is… I see it coming…and I don’t know if I can stop it. It’s going to tear me apart. Can you find any courage in your heart to tell me what it was like for you? Or is it just another one of so many things left unsaid? I’m scared, you know. I have no idea what my feelings ever are… I don’t know what love is. And I’m very afraid for myself and for this world, I’m very afraid for you, too… But I’m always willing to be your friend. |

What it was like... I wrote this in part to describe what it was like... They are cutting corn And like a scarecrow army The yellowed stalks stand In orderly rows, waiting, To be murdered By machines much larger Than themselves. I watch for a while As in quick pace, The trucks are loaded and leave… Return again… And wait… Like vultures to carry off The carrion. Memories of human wars Seen from the nightly news, In depth reports on PBS, Or closer… Fill my mind… And I must turn my head And think of Something else. They are cutting corn Only corn… I tell myself again. It's still hot… And sweat trickles between Shoulder blades and off My brow as I listen and watch. Humid… And the sweet smell of Oozing corn mixes With acrid smells of Other times Other places Diesel fumes and dust Well up in my nose As the sounds of roaring, Clanking machines fills my ears They are only cutting corn… What has been planted, Grown, matured, And now is ripe Must be harvested They are only cutting corn I tell myself Over and over But I walk away And go inside To other sounds That do not Remind me Of then. You piece captures the beginnings of those thoughts...and feelings...and the denial we fight.... I enjoyed it |

I've been scared to be alone with my thoughts...still sometimes I feel that way, but no near like it was. I don't know how it happens but somehow you manage to get through Hell with just a little burn. YOU are just fine questioning this, but don't dwell on it. You will find your path and you already know to be cautious. Very intense write...very much talent showing. In the Midst of movement and chaos, keep stillness inside of you. |

You know what they say about reaching "Rock Bottom"--the only way out, is up! And I do believe that you are on your way up, because you are taking a good look at where you have been and where you are at the present time! What you learn from this introspection can help you forge a better future for yourself. Hopefully we don't repeat our past mistakes, but living is a trial and error process. ~ Sending you a rainbow of light to brighten your day! warm hugs, EA |

Well, I don't know exactly how to express what I felt when I read your poem (and question)....... All I can say is that even though other people try to be a friend and to be helpful when we go through life's ups and downs and trials and tribulations........... the real answer to everything is found within ourselves. All anybody else can do is to BE THERE for the other person...if and when they want help from someone else. Then, and ONLY then can someone be helped with problems. But, still, the answer (I believe) is always found within your own self. Hope my little two cents worth helped!?! Just remember that you always have a great big "family of friends" here at PIP..... ![]() "Love makes the world go around" |

Eagle this is an amazing post. You took the words right out my head. I feel the same feeling sometimes, falling further down the spiral and my biggest fear is what if I haven't hit rock bottom yet. Hold on to hope however threadbare and keep writing, I admire you're honesty and openess. |

wow. like i said- you could wake up one day and realize what you had too late.. but- your soul is thoughtful, inspired, and brilliant; faith discerns it within ... if you let it. be careful. |

EagleScorpion - rock bottom comes with thoughts such as you have written here. But from the bottom comes life, and a new beginning. Best to you my friend... BC |

Thank you for be willing to be my friend. I view that as a most valued gift from you to me. The very first and foremost part of love is respect. Whether of yourself, your neighbor, your family, friends, or the love of your life. We are not supposed to look down at the manure we are planted in, (though nouishing our roots) but up to the light which nourishes our souls, giving strength of character. I like the respect of yourself, you show here, (humility) by being open and honest and trusting us with your feelings. (four more important parts of love) Love is not a magic feeling. It is all and more of what you've shown us you already possess. It hurts when we lose someone we want in our lives and they choose to not give us ~love~ back, but we gain, strength, wisdom, and courage and usually keep trying to find it again, no matter the pain, for we've become different from who we were, much more able to give love back selflessly, expecting nothing in return. So love isn't a feeling, but feelings are attached to it, both negative and positive. It is a combination of qualities, many of which you already have, as you've proven in your writing. You've also expressed much fear here and it was important to me way back when to delve into the God factor, for they say if you have faith you cannot have fear, but, quite frankly I can have both at the same time, but, there is something about knowing we are not in control, to me, that is heartening. It is a I can't, but God can attitude and takes time to develope. Usually those bottoming out do so because they lost the ability to cope with an addiction and/or similiar problem.... I guess fear can be included. We can't do anything about the wars, or end of the world, or death....but we can do a lot about life and living by giving, another character you've shown you already have...change the world around you...that is what you can do....tiny baby steps can keep you on your feet...and I am a firm believer in we get back, that which we give.... You are going to be just fine.. Hugs and warm regards to you, Pat ![]() ..without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.. Eagle--The honesty in this and the hard look around tell me you will be fine. I've been on the bottom a few times, and for some reason after being there, everything becomes more precious and beautiful. I wish this for you. |

Eagle - by your pic, you look quite young. Time is on your side buddy. We are all afraid at one time or another. You will be just fine. Great write. Chris ![]() "Hope" is the thing with feathers- |
