The golden ring on my finger
and through my nose
only binds me
to my moral obligation.

It cannot deter me
from looking beyond
the confines of my
current world.

I long to share your world
and be on your fringes
to be taken in and let you find
I am the safe one.

I am not the player of
the younger generation
I can hold your heart
and not break the trust.

I will not tempt you
and tease you
not reply to your letters
or gifts.
for I am the safe one.

I can share your thoughts
and understand their meanings
I can share the passion
but not expect more
for I am the safe one.

You can give what you can
and thats ok
for the boat we share
is driven by the a single engine
I am there for you
whenever I am needed
asking nothing in return
except to be your friend
your lover
for I am the safe one.

Well, this is one of the best mind screwing endeavors I've seen in print.

You are the safe one?..sounds almost like a pervert and I can just see the come here little hurt, vulnerable girl, let uncle hug you.....this gives me the willies and No, I never even had a close uncle.
I liked what Michelle had to say and agree.

Regards, You kinda missed the point I was making. I was trying to say, if someone, needed to fool around, it wasnt the thing to do with a young impetuous guy. A more mature indiviual might be a better choice.

Oh, I see, like a daddy or uncle.
Where I come from that is called incest, of a kind, whether it be conscious or subconscious.

I don't think I missed the point, I think you missed mine.

Overall, this is a good poem to teach women what this man willing to have sex is really about. Just that. No commitment to her except fulfilling her sexual needs, a liar, a cheat all for her...would you assume she is supposed to feel good about that?

Why not at least find an unmarried one (older) (with the advent of viagra, who would know the difference) to fool around with. What is wrong with not having sex for awhile!

There are some women who would relish an affair on the side with no strings attached, but, why for heaven's sake would they want to choose a married man????? Just so you know, there is no shortage of men to sleep with who are single and older and kind and loving and gentle and can spend the night, the next night and the whole week-end, where it mutually NEEDED/wanted....

To each his own. If, ~IF~ you(the character) had an open marriage and you and your wife agreed to your proposal in this poem, while I may not condone it, (none of my business) that at least leaves out the lying and cheating and dishonor!

I do wonder, too, what this character means by bound by "moral obligation", I don't think he'd know a moral if it was floating in his soup.

I've  heard those same descriptions before..only to find out that they didn't mean a thing as time went on...

This is fiction about a married guy who hasn't fooled around but is tempted with a married woman who has but with younger men. Thats why the married guy is the safe one. He is not the threat but just a friend. I have no clue where your incest statements come from. I apologize for hitting a nerve but I appreciate your thoughts! So on this note you win and I dont want to take it further. I will write again on more bland topics.
