Waiting for Winter's Thaw They were searching for a moment of freedom It comes with a tag that costs far too much Justice for all proclaimed the street kingdom Nobody's fool, they relied mostly on hunch Billy asked Joannie to live in his pitied town She came from Fresno with all her sorrow Their house was stark - their grass was brown Living for today, no thoughts of tomorrow He was slated for greatness in a sweat factory She was destined for servitude waiting tables No tragedies could fray their fabled story Gave to the homeless shelter when they were able Chorus They were handed a hard lot in life When they both drew the short straw Hardships were medals of freedom Waiting patiently for a Winter's Thaw He became shop foreman in his 38th year Billy looked forward - never complained about past She managed the restaurant with practice ear They held each other tight as years went by so fast He told her on their 40th year they had been wed That moment to moment, he never regretted a thing In their last season, thinking about happy days they had led They vowed in heaven to forever wear their wedding rings. Chorus They were handed a hard lot in life When they both drew the short straw But they had each other, and that was enough and together they had made the Winter Thaw . . . together they made the winter thaw . . . It would be great to hear this to music. Sometimes we have to make our own little piece of heaven with what we've be dealt. I enjoyed this |

A touching story, nice to be sung. Gosh, my 40th year....well, lets say it is a few years down the road yet.. Thanx Jeff for the song, and for the pic of a part of our history. |

(smiles) Oh Jeff, this is outstanding, yay! (big hugggssssssss) When I read this, this reminded me of something Jeff Trott (Sheryl Crow's main songwriter) would write, only this is yours and this would make a wonderful ballad! (big hugggssssssss) God Bless You, sweet friend, this should be a Billboard hit, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Jeff, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." Shakira [This message has been edited by Mistletoe Angel (01-12-2003 07:24 PM).] |

Kacy, Thanks sweet lady! It was enjoyable to write another story song! Dulcy, my only heart, living without complication is my other's heart desire. And it has come to pass.....A Bushel and peck and a hug around the neck Hoot-ers: you hit on the point i was trying to make in this, that making the most of what hand we are dealt, and being happy with it, is a key to life. smile Nance, absolutely, my friend! Expectations are usually unrealistic when we expect too much out of life, and on the other side of the coin, we spend more time worrying about details about having fun than living in the moment and simply enjoying it! I am very appreciative to you all taking time to read and hum along! Thankx, y'all! Jeff |

Barry: i thought that Ford factory picture was waaaay coool and it brought to mind many images of the Midwest in which i was brought up. Hey, congrats on the longevity of your marriage....that is truly a blessing! Ethel, chime in, or along, anytime, music belongs to all people, and not just to the writer, huh? Noah, Hi old man! Yeah, it coulda been a Crowish type song, but i was leaning more toward the Springsteen style....it fits here where i live with all the factory work that has vanished over the years. You take care of yourself, OK? Vandana, thank you for your reply and look for the album at your local Best Buy...hehe Thankx, y'all! Jeff |

Jeff...Telling it like it is. The struggles many go through make the best songs, because they were lived.I could picture myself watching a video set in the 40's or 50's about this song as I was reading it. Totally enjoyed...Paul "To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you" |
