If I'd known how you'd run away I would have memorized the day we slogged through sandy catclaw fields, and chased each other 'til we reeled and fell down in the old barn's hay. The worst thing is, you might have stayed if I had found the nerve to say how much I cared-the way I feel- if I'd known how. I should have known you wouldn't play; I tried to mold you-you're not clay. My chance is shot-the truth revealed- it's much too late-the time's congealed. I wouldn't have these tears to pay if I'd known how. Nan (Pilgrim variety) |
