The Pledge In Judah there was such a drought, Some people started moving out. Elimelech, his wife and sons, Were part of the nomadic ones. Naomi was a woman who Was virtuous and faithful too. In Moab, then, they went to dwell, But there great sorrow soon befell. Her husband died and yet she stayed. Her sons each wed a Moab maid. Orpah was one, Ruth the other. Naomi was their loving mother. Fate dealt another hurtful blow. She lost her sons and didn't know What she should do, but soon a plan To journey home, where lived a man Who to her husband was a kin, Began to grow and settle in. Her daughters, she told to go back To their old homes, not from a lack Of tender feelings, but she knew They needed family ties too. Then Orpah left but Ruth knew she Must beg Naomi fervently To not be banished from her side And pledged she'd be a faithful guide, In all the days that they would live And only love and honor give. Naomi's God and people too Ruth would serve her whole life through. Naomi clasped her close and they Continued bravely on their way! To be continued in "The Promise" Betty Lou Hebert |
