I never told your Mother
on the day you were born
that the breath of life
couldn't escape from
your little lips
Doctor Bowers slid tubes down
into your fluid filled lungs
while everything in my
body and soul willed
you to breathe
And I lied to her
over and over
until you cried and the air
made you pink and perfect
not purple, blue, and still
So I just wanted to let you know
that on the day I watch your child
come through that dark tunnel
into the light
I'll tell you the biggest lie . . .
if I have to-
but never anytime else
because some lies are all right
when we're on the edge
of no return
and decide to come home
to stay.

Aren't you fortunate to live in Seattle, Annie. I love that city! It would be among my top five choices if I could live anywhere I wished.

Keep the poetry coming out of the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

(big hugggssssssss) Though I don't believe in lying whatsoever, this is so very beautiful and touched my heart deeply and because this lie was a white lie, it is most tolerable!
