Truth

The sun has long been gone
My hopes drifted away into the night
Lost dreams clouding my thoughts
As I role around in my bed
Tears slowly running down my cheeks
As I face the truth

For too long I fooled myself
Of pointless dreams that deep down
I know will never be

Of wealth and fortune, within my grasp
Of plans to go and travel the world
Of great choices that I will have to make
To change and fix what I shall face
Of the things never done before
To accomplish and succeed in what my will desires

For too long I have lied to myself
Of wished made that deep down
I know will never be granted

Everyday I tell myself
Everyday day it rises more
Of the things I shall do to bring up my hopes
But by the time the day is done
The tears are back the hopes are gone
As the truth strikes again at my soul

The things I wish the things I dream
I kid myself - force and torture myself
To believe what I say, what I will do
But in the end, I know they shall never be
More than dreams

We can all have our small triumphs. Maybe you should try taking small steps without grasping for the whole game at once. Joyce

It is a very good thing to be able to pour one's heart out before the Lord. We don't have to be pretty or proper in our cry to Him.

I believe He hears your heart here and has dreams for you that you would not "dream" are possible!

Blessed are the poor in Spirit, for their's is the Kingdom of God.

As I said before, this one is good Matt, and the upcoming ones will hail as much success as this one, perhaps more so as your fame and repute grows. I have no qualms about your poem, only prude acknowledgements as this is not my personal style and I can really only judge based on what I relate to. Nevertheless, I know you have talent and I, as with each and every other poet here who has or does read your poetry will agree, there is great expectations for what you will provide next.

ah, dreams...I had a dream for 30 years, and I let it die, purposely, to be able to walk with our Savior, but letting it die was not easy...traumatic in fact, it almost stopped me in my tracks, had to physically write it out and find a way to forgive myself for killing it...dreams are not bad unless they get in the way of reality...
ok...nuff bout my dreams...this is a wonderful poem...great thoughts..enjoyed

Life is all about how we feel. Our treasures are within us and the only thing that we can take with us. Dreams are hope and hope is never destroyed. Dreams in and upon themselves are comforting. because hope will always be there. The best.

Your poetry has certainly brought out many feelings from our members in Spiritual and as they have covered most of mine I will simply say that I am truly looking for more of this typing of writing from you as it is not only inspirational but it does make one think. Well done indeed.
