Summer's Pageantry Do you suppose when Eden grew And Eve and Adam thought they knew The answer to the mystery That dwelt within the apple tree, That summers were the same as now? I find I often wonder how God could improve on what we see When summer reigns. How could it be? Were skies more blue or grass more green And were more birds and flowers seen? Then, was the weather so contained, It never stormed and never rained? I wonder if perfection lies In never changing earth and skies, Or if variety is best. Guess I'll have to let it rest And just be glad, each year to see, Summer's usual pageantry! Betty Lou Hebert [This message has been edited by Trillium (05-28-2003 12:03 PM).] |

Thought provoking, Trillium. Good poem! I think what Adam and Eve had was, in fact, perfection. They enjoyed utter harmony with their environment. Something we forfeited. Let's take the thunder storm for instance. How great would it be to walk into the face of a thunder storm KNOWING it was your friend? No trace of fear. To be able to stare into the sun? To lay down with the lion and cuddle. To let a spider crawl into your mouth and out your nose just for the laugh of it. To drink pristine water. But your point is well taken. I'm thrilled with the beauty and state of nature God has, in His mercy and goodness, provided. The tragedy of the deteriorating nature of death was inserted into nature because of the fall. LayItDown: Thanks for reading and responding to this poem. I know Eden was perfection, and what we have today is not a close second, but I'm always grateful for what we do have, in nature. Betty Lou Hebert |

I think in His grat plan he gave us each a bit of Eden. A perfect spring or summer day when perfection is achieved is a little bit of that Eden. Wonderful poetry. Love, Joyce |

Joyce: Thanks for your message. We can only imagine what Eden was like, but as you say, we certainly can catch glimpses of it. Betty Lou Hebert |

![]() (big hugggsssssss) I do think remnants of Eden do indeed still exist, it is far from perfection today but if we truly have nothing from before, there would be no sunny days, roses and daisies for little girls to pick their mothers, bluebirds of happiness to flitter about, robins to make amends! (sigh) Either way.....HAVE A HAPPY SUMMER, yay, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Betty, thank you for sharing! ![]() May love and light always shine upon you! ![]() Photo by Tony Howell - Crocus Beautiful poem. I think even looking at one single and "simple" flower we can have the idea of PERFECTION. I agree that humans have often interfered with nature and caused disaster. I hope we grow in awareness of the treasure our Earth is ... even if Eden seems so far away. Love, Margherita |

BettyLou~ Indeed things may have been 'different' then~ Yet we are grateful for each day that gives us a look at nature's perfection~ He is GOOD ! Thank you for sharing your God-given talent~ *Huglets* ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ |

Lovely poem - great reminder of the Creator who made all this beauty in the universe. I would think He would love playing around with his own creation - and variety could be fun. |

I think life and our earth were very different then. We have abused the beauty and pageantry that God has given us. Yet, if we look around, still much of the majestry remains. It is up to us to preserve what is left of His creations. I enjoyed this very much and it has given me much to ponder this rainy, cold day. Dear Marti: Thanks for your comments. I too think there is still such grandeur in the world and so many wonderful creatures, in spite of what has disappeared. Love Betty Lou Betty Lou Hebert |

You have touched upon the secret of the difference between now and Eden; we don't know the difference. So...a syllogism? The Lord made Eden Eden is perfect work Therefore the Lord's work is perfect Ergo, today's summers are Edens. (Thanks again to Mysteria for pointing me to you...) This is a prime example of how you change my life in so many ways. I will be more thankful for the Eden that surrounds me tomorrow and think of this beautiful poem, thank you and thank the Creator. |
