America at War Dear God, I know that You have seen this all before, So many good men fighting in another war. Our young folks die and we all cry, "Never again. Why must the world's freedom cost such agonizing pain?" We pray our leaders have been circumspect and just; And give us strength to face the trials as we must. When at last it's over, we're in the victor's ring, Let us display compassion in the songs we sing. When we're counting costs, adding up each battle scar, Perhaps then we'll agree that the answer isn't war. We ask as we sadly pursue this dreadful fight, "Why does it take so many wrongs to make a right?" By: Joyce 03/23/03 |

"We ask as we sadly pursue this dreadful fight, "Why does it take so many wrongs to make a right?" Only the Lord can make things completely right.. we do the best we can, I suppose. I hope this war will be over soon, as well. Oh, make me Thine forever |

Joyce: These are things we are all asking and there are no answers at present. I hope someday we'll all live in peace! Betty Lou Hebert |

(big hugggssssssss) I too find myself asking the same question and I hope soon He can make action and end this war and finally we can get to a resolution of peace, which is the only way! (sad sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, this is powerful, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Joyce, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Joyce, we all ask ourselves these same questions. Let's pray for a quick ending to this war.. and that all the troops return home safely. ~Hugs~ ~Somewhere in my heart I'm always |

Why does it take so many wrongs to make a right? I really wonder that too. How much longer will it take? People wonder the value of history, yet don't learn that we will keep on doing the same things and not learning for the past. Great message brought to words in a very meaningful way. Thanks! |

I like this whole poem a lot, but I think the most profound, though it seems so simple, words found from you in your poem are these.... "The answer isn't war!!!" Good job. -Bob |

Very well written Joyce. I pray for the soldiers every day, but also I pray for victory. I am afraid that without victory there will never be peace; not for us, but for those innocent slaves of dictatorship. As we live here in our nice little warm homes(that we work hard for)eating and living our freedoms that we would not have had without conflict or without the bravery of the soldier, many freedoms we take for granted - many over there only know horror; it is a way of life. Yes we ARE all afraid here, afraid our warm little lives may be disrupted or attacked, they have been abused so long they don't understand a kind a gesture or what it's like to not be attacked. Joyce I apologize for my soapbox, and I know this isn't quite the place for it, but as poets we are emotional beings and it is important to us to write what we feel? Agreed? I too pray for peace, but I know the politically correct thing today is that everyone wants a swift war, or for it to be over, but now that we are in, we must be victorious. As of now the people we are trying to free do not trust us becuase we came in in '91 and gave them hope, then we left. After we left the hope we gave them led them to revolt. That revolt led to Saddam massacreing thousands for thier behavior. If we back out now they will never ever trust us and they will always live in hell. Again I apologize Joyce I realize this thing is tearing our country in half and that is a bad thing, especially when it comes to us Christians. Despite all of our differences, as beleivers our role in this thing is to pray and pray a lot. I sincerely hope my views have not hindered my poetry on the site. Thank you and God bless you. He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered. Proverbs 28:26 |

Hi, I believe you have shared the most haunting prayer, I was overwhelmed when I read your poem. More like a plea to tell a story of this world and what is in this world. War is not okay, if that is true, then why are we at war? I have so many questions as to why the world thinks war can save us when war kills and kills. Thanks I must cry now for this world and for my neighbor and for myself. You have said what needs to be said and shared your gift of poetry. In the Spirit, Whippoorwill |

Thanks to all of you and thannk you Poet4Christ for your views. Of course no one will hold your views against you. I think they reflect all of ours. War is a terrible thing and if the world would just accept the request from God to love one another it would be unnecessary. But that has not happened and now we pray that our battles end in victory for us and then we can start the rebuilding and try to show the world democracy in action. Thank you too Whipporwill you were writing your reply as I was writing my reply to the others. War is a problem that has just not been resolved for all of these years and we must persevere and try to show his love and do the best we can.
