There is something about palm branches, The halleluiahs and hoorays That separate Palm Sunday From the following dark days. They came en masse to laud him With fever running high They turned away to save themselves When danger edged too nigh. Only a few would follow Him As he walked towards his grave. Only a few would honor Him For coming to Earth to save. Would you have been among the few Who dared to call Him King? Or among those who shouted crucify, His unearned death to bring? If I had lived in those days And been blessed to see my Lord, I pray I would have stayed with Him And heard His final word. “Father forgive them, for they know not what they do.” By: Joyce Johnson 4/13/11 |

With the love we feel now for Jesus, we really can't imagine abandoning Him then, but even His own disciple Peter denied Him, though he cried bitter tears afterwards ... it is so sad and we can just pray as you do so beautifully, dear Joyce, in your moving poem. Love, Margherita |

This is exquisite, Joyce. I feel an immediate need for a very good composer to set this to music as I would LOVE to sing this as a hymn in church. Owl |

How I'd love to hear Owl sing your beautiful lines, Joyce. Hind sight tells us we'd have stayed with our Savior in His last hours, but your great insight bears the truth that we are weak and should not judge the actions of another. This timely, truthful piece is a real blessing to us, Joyce. Thank you so much. God bless, Rae |

Beautifully written Joyce. I agree with Owl - it would make for a lovely hymn. |
