Speaking for Herself
- by The Vestibular Bard

So many of my species,
Have a habit I find odd,
They can’t resist the urge,
To claim they speak for god,
Some do it out of love,
And others out of hate,
Such a powerful elixir,
This feeling can create.

And sometimes there are men,
Who speak so very well…
And people flock to listen,
When they hear the steeple’s bell.
Men reading words of other men,
Behind stain glass façade,
They can’t resist the urge,
To claim they speak for god.

Men speak for oh so many gods,
And many versions, of the same;
Yahweh, Jesus, Allah…
God has so many names.
And sometimes men agree,
What things god has to say,
But often times they don’t…
That’s when nerves begin to fray.

A man’s god is always right,
And your's of course is wrong.
It's a feeling that resides,
In our pride and in our song.
But sometimes there are folks,
Who look beneath the robes,
And all they see are men,
In the emperor’s new clothes,

Just perhaps what they have found,
Is the key to mankind’s health,
It seems they’d prefer a god…

…who just speaks for herself.
