This is a poetic re-make of a story I heard one time ...

a DAY aWAY

“A day away! A day away!
My day’s a day away!
I want a bike and not a TRIKE!
Please, hear me when I pray!
A RED one! Not a BLUE one!
Now, HEAR me when I say!
I want a BIKE and NOT a TRIKE!
My DAY’s a DAY aWAY!

It’s right here! Can you see it?!
On this page! ONE! OH! THREE!
Now, get it RIGHT! It’s the last NIGHT!
YES! That’s the ONE for me!
The BMX with multi-PLEX!
It’s geared to climb a TREE!
Now! Get it RIGHT! Praise GOD! Good Night!
Pleeeeease, GET that BIKE for ME!

Oh, God! OH, GOD!! OH, GOD!!!"

Now, just then, Mom and Dad stepped in
to see what was the fuss
with their dear Son who had begun
to whine, complain, and cuss …

“Oh, dear Son, what have you done?
Each word God’s understood,
you need not yell, your heart did tell
beyond what your lips could …”

… then Johnny thought a moment
and replied just how he should …

"Mom, you’re Right and, Dad, you’re Right,
but Grandma's in the kitchen
and, well, she don’t hear so good."

God bless,
Lighthouse Bob

Rae and Joyce,

Big Smiles. Thank you's to both of you for being such good sports about this one and, well, yes, I am a Grandpa now so I guess I do fall into this catagory as well.

Again, thanks so much for your kind replies and God bless,

-Bob

Melton,

You are very very Welcome and, yes, I do agree with you that little Johnny certainly expressed much innocence and wisdom in that he had no or very few reservations in regards to making his requests known not only to God but to everyone else who might or couldn't help but to listen. Thanks again and God bless,

-Bob

isufipoems

Thanks. Two birds, hummmm, yeppers, little Johnny got a really really fancy sling shot from Grandma last Christmas.

Robin,

Always a pleasure to hear from you. I've been doing good health wise (no unexpected trips to the hospital as of late) and this semester coming up will be my final semester of college, hummmm, well, maybe this will be my final semester (I should take this one day by day). Again, it was really really nice to hear from you and, yes, I do, also, hope and pray that all is well with you.

God bless,

-Bob

I thought this one was gong to be about the wrongness of telling God what to do as If we are LORD and He is our Mystical Genie at our beck and call---but you threw a curve and still did a great and humorous job of it!
Very Good! I like your style,

Found another one and oh thanks for the smiles, dear Bob! This is just too cute.

Being a granny and also a little bit deaf, but with a big heart, makes this one fit perfectly to my situation!!

Good that God knows His ways and how to answer our prayers in whatever form they reach out to Him.

Love and joy,
Margherita

My young son was so lucky to have a very generous grandmother. She bought him a green bike for his birthday, then passed away 3 days later.  She never got to see him ride it.   Love the poem.
