The woman had to do it alone The old mans heart was broken His gait was slow and weary His eyes were barely open She wielded the blade with heavy arm With measured grace she swung She layed them open fearlessly Those Fallen from the Sun They who dared impose their lives Upon this hallowed ground Gave them up this awful day And uttered not a sound! To the earth to die they fell And when their days were done She lit a flame and burned the corpse Of each and every one For a year she watched and waited There would soon be more to stand And when they came like ocean waves They fell beneath her hand! Three more times she fought them back And slew them every one. The old man dragged them off to burn Those Fallen from the Sun. Declared the woman, 'Flee this land! With eyes that held no shame She watched the earth that held their souls Release them to her flame. The blackened soil still holds the lives Of those who are to come. The Slow ones will awaken soon And Rise before the Sun. david |
