the trees are black against the sky
observing the clouds that dance with the moon
swerving in patterns like truth and light

and lifting covers to shed the night
revealing reflections still and smooth
of tall trees, black against the sky

dawn glows orange and red in my eyes
my heart is a bursting blossom in bloom
a bud of yearning turned to the light

to be freed from worries, released from fright
as I sense my place in a world renewed
I breathe with the trees, black against the sky

observing outward, I set my sights
on a universal search for truth
and pray for the courage to face that light

I've learned I can't turn the tides of time
nor years gone past shall I brood
but stand strong like trees, black against the sky
and forever seek the truth in the light

I find comfort when I meditate. When the day seems long and the nights so silent. I close my eyes and pray. Your words reflect what I'm feeling.

If at first you don't succeed destroy all the evidence that you tried.
