From the Catholic calendar, August 24th is the day that is devoted to the Apostle Bartholomew

Prayer to Saint Bartholomew the Apostle (http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/pray0150.htm)

O Glorious Saint Bartholomew, Jesus called you a person without guile and you saw in this word a sign that he was the Son of God and King of Israel. Obtain for us the grace to be ever guileless and innocent as doves. At the same time, help us to have your gift of faith to see the Divine hand in the events of daily life. May we discern the signs of the times that lead to Jesus on earth and will eventually unite us to him forever in heaven.
Amen.

Bartholomew

And who were you Bartholomew
That you were mentioned with the twelve of His
Disciples or His chosen few
Who knew and knew Him well as who He is
And was and just because the honor lured
  You to His gaze
Still wanting more to know His ways
   His wonderment, His pure
     Amaze.

How could He know? How did He see
Beyond the outer shell of earthly things
An honest man beneath a tree
Shout, “Thou Son of God! Thou Israel’s King!”
And not you scold but in you hold a gift
  For further days
Of fervor felt and fervor raised
  And fervor meant to lift
     in Praise.

God bless,
Lighthouse Bob

Moving and inspirational is how to describe both poems. They moved me to write this little piece:- Can we imagine, what the apostles must of truly experienced;

To have stood in His presence
To have looked into His eyes
To have felt His love
That lifts above the skies

To follow in their footsteps, may God give us the strength to endure this earthly suffering and lead us into His peace.
