Mama and Pa’s really happy today
They’re talkin’ like a baby is on it’s way.
Now I am only two and I’m a-tellin’ you
If I’m no longer #1 I don’t know what I’ll do.

I don’t know nothin’ bout no baby either
Cept he cries a lot and needs a breather.
That’s what Sunny says of me
But he ain’t right, I weren’t no baby.

Sunny comes and plays with me a bit
Not much unless he has to baby-sit.
The boy a mile down the lane
Name’s Roger and the two is playin’.

Mama’s busy makin’ cloths today
For this baby that is on his way.
And has no time for little games
Making bread from home fresh grains.

Pa’s out there plowin’ the field today
A pat on the head for me is his way.
But spot and I we rumble tumble
Ouch! That rock caused me to stumble.

I’m smellin’ mama’s yummy pie
I’ll get a piece by and by.
Guess I’ll watch the boys go swimmin’
But they’re not dressed for young women.

Oh what to do this hot day
I hear a baby’s on the way.
Maybe it won’t be so bad
I’ll have a playmate I never had.

First let me extend to you a very hearty Welcome!!! and then let me say Congratulations for a very engaging first post.

I enjoyed the nostalgia of your poem and it brought back memories for me of my daughter and how she must have felt knowing that her little brother was about to be born into the world. I grew up an only child but I do think that it's so much better as you have written...

for children to grow up with a playmate.

Thank you so much Bob. I think I am going to like it here too.

Thank you for the welcome. I too am a only child. But I think back to what life was like for others. The Rockwell Pictures get my mind going too.
