(Inspired by the shooting of six women in Seattle yesterday, because of happenings in Israel and Lebanon). One World I try not to let it spoil my day. It's happening so far away. There's truly nothing I can do; My garden needs some tending to. I spend some happy, busy hours With loving work amidst my flowers. Let others blow themselves away, Why should I let it spoil my day? But now it's come so close to home, My fingers tremble in the loam. It could as easily have been One of my own, my beloved kin. Six innocents who pay the price In random choice as sacrifice For sin and suffering far away. It's quite enough to spoil my day. Father above, please dry my tears, Quiet my trembling, ease my fears. Remind me that happenings far away Are spoiling someone else's day. Let me speak for them in daily prayer, Your suffering children everywhere. May war and hatred pass away And bring to all, an unspoiled day. By: Joyce Johnson 7/29/06 |

Joyce~ This is just sooooo very sad~ Nothing, nothing prepares us for the horrors taking place, either across the big pond or close to home~ Hatred is an evil that I just find it impossible to comprehend~ *sigh* How do we even tell one to *be safe* under circumstances like this ? *Huglets* ~*Marge*~ ~*The sound of a kiss is not as strong as that of a cannon, but it's echo endures much longer*~ |

Oh, Joyce, you've written my thoughts, too. Each one killed, each wounded, has a profound effect on family, friends and community. All we can do is pray for them and for the perpetraters until peace one day reigns. Thank you for sharing this. God bless Rae My husband does our flower beds, so we differ there but I sure enjoy the beauty. |

Joyce, I have some immediate family members who live in the Seattle area too (including my son) so this incident was a bit more close to home than I would have liked as well. I admit that I too have a tendency to be lackadaisical or apathetic toward things that happen "over there" and I think that your poem helped me to see that this is true in my life and, yes, I too desire to be more caring and compassionate toward those who are having their most precious days spoiled by the most unfortunate and disgraceful events imaginable. Thank you for expressing your heart here and for encouraging others as well. God bless. -Bob |

Joyce your poem touched my heart as did your prayers. Hugs Kimberly |
