The church bells peal out Across the English countryside. They ring in the living, An invitation To enter the Holy Doors Of God’s House. Whilst outside, Midst high uncultured Grasses, nettles and fern The Garden of Sleep Is a resting-place Of souls, long departed. Ivy, brambles and weeds Run uncontrolled and unchecked, Clinging tenaciously To grave markers Of weathered stone, That for centuries, Though defaced By time and element, Have stood their ground. Such possessively rampant greenage Adds life - to that Which is, purported, dead. |

Welcome to Passions, Spirit! We have a great number of rooms for you to visit, here at Passions. You might find more responses to your poetry if you visit Open and get to know others. Our Sanctuary forum is a place for the poets who have spent a lot of time here, to come and sit back and have some quiet time. If you would like, let me know and I can move your first post to Open, where it will receive more readership. And Please, check your e-mail for a Special Greeting! Karilea |

This was my first post and I put it into Sanctuary, the wrong place. It said for senior members and I'm a senior, so I thought!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can but improve. I am an enigma, even unto myself. |

Thanks for you comment on my lastest poem, I haven't had too much time for reading other's poems and commenting but glad I sought your's out today. This is really good and I especially like the last line "adds life to that Which is purported, dead." I am going to seek out more of your poems to read. |

It seems as if I have missed out on responding to this lovely descriptive poem of yours as well. Your words that you have painted here of "The Church at Chiddingly" offers a very picturesque description in deed. Reminds me of the old Missions that we have here in California. When I visit, I find myself drifting back, it seems, in my imagination to a time when these buildings were actual living quarters and places of worship for the Padres and the Indians. I must admit that I have acquired a similar interest and drawing to the charm of these Missions as you have described. Another great poem my friend and, again, thank you for sharing it here. -Bob [This message has been edited by Lighthousebob (04-18-2003 08:48 PM).] |
