Naked Am I

I’m naked as the day
I came into this world,
I’ll cover up in a way
Sinfulness has been hurled.

Covered by greed,
Clothed in green
All is unneeded
Clothed, but still unclean.

Cleansed in the filth
Of lustful taunts
And buried in the wealth
Gasping with want.

Drenched in the muck
Fed by a serpent
Until his head be struck
And sins I repent.

Naked am I,
Your voice has been heard
You do not leave me dry
And feed me with your word.

Your wisdom covers me
Protects and warms,
The light I see
And kept dry in the storm.

Your word pours out
To satiate my thirst
And your love I’m never without,
Even at my worst.

Cleansed from the filth,
Washed away greed,
No more desired wealth
You’re all I need.

Naked is my soul
Yet you have restored
You cleansed it, and made me whole
Naked am I, without you my Lord.

Hope can die in an instant
but forever dreams carry on.

Amazing, isn't it, that anyone could love us so much, and color us "clean" when we are so very "dirty"!!

Awesome poem with many awesome truths. When we can stand before the Lord "naked" without shame, we will know that we have done right. I may have to go back and reread it because it was so full of many truths. Likely one of my favourite poems on this site and I've been on this site for a few years now. Well done, well written and I hope to read more of your work.
