Keep The Baby Warm By: Noah Eaton 12/23/03 There was a young robin Who shared Bethelem's stable Who sang from her nest From the holy steeple Then one night when the fire went out She flew down from the rafters To fan the fire to keep baby Jesus warm That's why she has her red breast God earned her There once lived a shepherdess Who devoted her heart to Him in worship But looking at her face you can see the shame That she had no gift to offer baby Jesus And as her tears touched the ground She could see a white rose blooming from underneath And the petals were graced with pink From the gentle touch of the Baby When you were never sure you believed in miracles It only takes a little love to make them silver and gold So spread your love, amen Keep the baby warm Once lived a little orphan boy Who heard the herald angels sing of His birth And made a crown from holly branches To offer Him as a gift for offering the world mirth But he felt the crown was unworthy He began to cry and never felt so ashamed But He touched it and made the leaves shine And his tears into scarlet berries that fell from his face When you were never sure you believed in miracles It only takes a little love to make them silver and gold So spread your love, amen Keep the baby warm He's the reason rosemary is tinged with blue He's the reason the bells ring through and through The balls on your Christmas tree resemble His laughter When one little boy juggled to entertain our savior There used to be a lamb named BaBa Who lived with the holy family in Bethelem And one night she noticed the baby's blanket was thin Shivering from the cold, in His infant bed And so the little lamb warmed Him with her own body With her coat that felt so rough and shaggy And as He touched her coat, she could see In the morning she had a new soft wool coat as beautiful as can be When you were never sure you believed in miracles It only takes a little love to make them silver and gold So spread your love, amen Keep the baby warm And when I stand there on the narthex Looking up at all the lancets All those precious images of our Lord And in keeping the baby warm Remember all He has bestowed upon me and you Spread your love to Him any way you choose From your heart let the candles burn And keep the baby warm... |

This is beautiful. I read a story to my children the other night..."The Crippled Lamb". If you haven't already, please do pick it up for a read. It's a great story and your poem much reminded me of it. Often times many feel they are unworthy, undeserving, and worse...unserving. But it is simple to see that we all have gifts that we are born with...but it is up to us to undo the wrapping and reveal the treasure to others. Oh, I liked this write! |
