The night has come upon.
Silence, now through open
window, a gentle breeze
of autumn air.

Crisp with deep of scent
for the rain has been heavy
and the earth sated to full.

Out upon the lawn, darkened in shade
mushrooms now grow and bloom
in sunless light, they drink of
the evening sky, mist upon nocturnal.

Country streetlight illuminates
with soft shadows
the edge of structures, houses
across the way, mute of life
at this hour.

This sweet fall of night.
Caress of darkness for my spirit.
