I visited a nursing home today And the place smelled Of urine How can people live in a place Like that Unfortunately they can't Care for themselves anymore But I noticed That the patient would need help And the nurses just kept Walking past Neglecting the calls for help Some nurses Let their patients Sit in adult diapers All morning In their own urine And not change them Until afternoon How sick is this? Patients are in pain And in need Of the nurse And all the nurse says is, "I will be there In a little while." And a little while Turns into hours How sad is this? To me this is neglect People in those homes Need the same amount of love As anybody does young or old But to me they need Just a little more loving That they don't get In those damn nursing homes Cold hands means a warm heart |

I salute a write with a social conscience...the neglect and abuse of our seniors is epidemic...and raising awareness is not beyond the mandate of poets...I applaud you for this poem. Stir the conscience of society... ...believe what your heart feels... |

Too true... that's just wrong to neglect them like that. What is life without poetry and adventure? |

I concur, and if you have the time perhaps you can volunteer a few hours a week there, or, even an hour; wouldn't it be so nice, if we all could? Visiting with them would make all the difference in their very small worlds. Might also incline management to 'clean up' the situation. You clearly have a loving, warm heart, to notice this major crime in society. Thank you for bringing it to our attention. Warmly, Pat ..without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.. |
