I used to sketch To pass idle time Attempting to capture Brief gestures of life Half-filled books Now dwell in the past I used to paint To give color to thought A portrayal of feelings That came from within The oils have now hardened The canvas, in rot I used to photograph That which once stirred me The capture of memory On bright shiny paper Then, abandoned my darkroom To fungus and dust I used to form sculpture To give texture to meaning A solidified moment To make beauty from mud But the clays have all crumbled The kiln has grown cold I used to write [This message has been edited by wranx (10-23-2002 11:55 PM).] |

not too hard my friend.... just look inside and breathe... a natural it seems when it comes to words.... and you do paint, then sculpt the images with words as well as most any I have met.... nice to see you here... |

Whew! I thought we had lost you! Ed, you have more talent in your baby finger than most people have in their whole body! You may be going through a dry spell with your painting and sculpting, but that does not apply to your writing--even if that is what you believe. I may not always know where you're coming from with what you write because I'm a pretty straight forward thinker when it comes to poetry, but I certainly do appreciate your talent! As an artist myself, I know what you are talking about in this poem, and you conveyed that extremely well. Whenever I have experienced a drought in this area, I feel like my soul has withered up. But I've pulled myself out of it through sheer determination---I didn't wait to be motivated---I just started painting again. It may not have been up to my standards at first, but it was the process that mattered---I was creating!--whether it be good, bad or indifferent. I was being pro-active and eventually, I was producing works again that I was proud of. All artists, whether they be painters, writers, poets, landscape architects, designers etc. tend to be more sensitive to the highs and the lows in life. We are greatly affected by the events in our lives. This can wreak havoc with our creativity--and when that happens, we even get lower. It can become a vicious cycle. Sorry for going on and on, but I just wanted to share some of my thoughts with you! Please keep writing and posting---you have quite a following here at Passions---and I am part of that following! Great write....you are an artist with a great mind....I'm not sure why you don't like me....but regardless, I think your work is nothing less than top notch....Your little ditty on the other board about the refund from the IRS and Ms. Cleo is one of the funniest things I've read since I first came here....keep up the profound work [This message has been edited by Toerag (10-23-2002 03:35 PM).] |

Again your words amaze Ed. You are a very talented writer and man do you ever catch the essence of your thoughts in ink so well! I for one am glad that you are still here. If I have touched one heart through my words, then I have acheived my dream... |

Ms 23, thank you for your kind comment. Chris? It would appear so. Hmmmm Thanks witch, for listening to a Yetis' mad ravings. Ron, my friend, It is nice to BE seen, yes it is. Linda the Earnest, I haven't painted, sculpted, or anything in the longest time. (I am attempting a small sculpture for someone at the moment though. Hope it goes well) Toerag sir, I've no reason to dislike you. You seem to be a fellow much like myself. And an extra thanks for your appreciation of that bit of prose. Gentle one, Thank you for reading me, thank you for your well wishes. I am compelled to stay among you. Annie, as I've mentioned to Linda, there is none to show. Thanks very much for your interest, though. I'm flattered. Brian, stalwart, SI! Ed |

You didn't 'use' to write. You just started! It's amazing that you have done so many artistic things that few of us could do. It's interesting that when one muse goes on vacation, you find another creative outlet! If decoupage is your next talent, let me know, I've got some great ideas! I really liked this sir. It's a true artist's lament - one we all share at one time. But don't give up!! |

Ed, I'm so glad that you're still here. I think I've told you in another reply to your work, that I've only been here for a few weeks, but I have enjoyed reading every one of your poems that I've read. Sometimes I don't reply to every poem I read. I would certainly miss you if you left. You are a very talented poet, I know. Thank you for sharing. Love To All, Ethel |

Yes, yes, yes! You do write so eloquently! I have all kinds of creative yearnings in my heart...to paint, draw and sculpt. I want to put beauty in the world in all the manners you described. Unfortunately, writing has been the only creative outlet I have shown any aptitude for (and recently, there has been a dry spell). Keep writing! |

I used to be disillusioned... for love was withdrawn and given to another, and the lies stood between and even bedsheets grew rough... so now, I write... |

If this is considered not writing, remind me not toget too jealous when you regain the ability. Loved this. Kielo I don't care if you're an old fart, because old people are smarter than me. |
