As red tide sea you swept, inpotable swell whose journey led nowhere save vertical lifts whose highs too brief, whose lows standard, amid hills of gunmetal grey waves where upraised eyes found only skies of haze and minor eddies muddling East from West. What energy I had was wasted twisting counter-vortex looking for the rope, the lifesaver, the hook from (foolishly) a passerby who gave a damn. I surrendered to the currents which led me far from me. How was it I forgot to swim? Only now do I awaken as a castaway who after twenty years is beached. And true while I tired, weakened and disheveled from such a sordid saga I live. And yes I've been disgorged to a desert trading dunes for waves but on firm ground with bluer skies, a Sun which gives direction so that I might rise and walk, perhaps find me. Outside love no longer calls from the horizon or the mornings and at last I can live with this. [This message has been edited by RSWells (10-23-2002 02:50 PM).] |

understand this one all too well... so I can't say it gave an easy time in reading..for I got distracted along the way looking inside....but it does read well and it certainly shows the talent you have for putting the depth of meaning into but a few words... good stuff.... |

Beached thoughts, hardly leaving energy for those that would still pick up the shells to remark upon their beauty... |

Thanks for the replies. This is a momentous occasion where for the first time I won't capitalize love. It need take forms other than male/female henceforth. Self, familial, who knows? But no more debilatating longing. This from a shell who's baked brittle from the residual brine of indifference and the relentless heat of an unforgiving Sun. |

Richard Time can be a friend or enemy..just depends on the trips we take, for it seems when we are not counting, we are learning something important. (hmmm, does that even make sense?) I liked the possitive feel to this poem Richard...and really, love is important, and maybe one day you will capitalize it again...especially when talking about self. |

Thank you, Richard... ...Oh! We grasp at that elusive word, just the one word that will bring it all back once we reach our destination, if not our destiny, holding on to it and milking it, tasting it in our mouth, rolling it over and over like a mantra, that one word that will bring forth from the depths of the well of us all that would pour forth and nourish any reader who is desiccated and waiting, like a sponge thrown from the sea and beached, dried brittle by the harsh sun and sucked dry from the sands below, and then like the mighty return of the wave in the dark of night, having snuck back up the shoreline toward the pier, we crash upon the sponge/paper and let it drink in all that it waited for… ... |

Richard, by the time I read Karilea's response I forgot what I wanted to say to you. (big smile) Oh, yes.... I can relate completely with your poem. I honestly understand how you feel and it is so good to see some of my thoughts written so eloquently by you. I so appreciate your poetry. Thank you ever so much, Warmly, Pat ..without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.. |

While I cannot and never have identified with this feeling, I do feel for you. For as long as I have known you - you capitalized the "L" in love as it was your saving grace, and the one thing that filled you up when you were empty with warmth and hope. Life is but a journey and it is through our choices how pleasant or distasteful it becomes. We do have an option of which road we travel. I will pray that you will find the faith in love you once had and give it the respect you once did. |

I have always believed that before love finds us, we must first love ourselves. It sounds as though you are on that journey, pure love will come when the time is right, until then, get to know Richard, I think you will find that you like him. |

Richard, this part really stood out to me..... "love no longer calls from the horizon or the mornings and at last I can live with this" I was almost at this point in my life, because of so many hurts in relationships in my past. Then, when I was least expecting it, (and CERTAINLY not LOOKING for it), the most wonderful and loving man I have ever met came into my life. It started out with us being friends and now has grown into us being wonderfully in love. Richard, I know this poem could have more than one meaning, but this is just one aspect I saw. I hope that you will one day find the completeness of whatever you may be looking for. Thanks for sharing your wonderful work with us. You are a very talented poet, Sir. Love to All, Ethel |
