~*Alone...On My Own*~

Fate had left me broken
pieces of my soul, scattered in the wind
like shards of broken raindrops floating down
I was alone

soon an empty year had passed
arriving at the place it was before
a year of fears, of shifting gears
of lessons learned at heartbreak's beck and call
I had survived
on my own

although my heart still burned with pain
and teardrop shadows lingered
in the creases of my soul
I had thrived
alone

self-reliant, needing no one
independance played my game
and I had won
I felt power
on my own

~~~***~~~
and then one day my eyes of green
locked upon a pair of smokey blue
our souls touched
the air was thick with quickly beating hearts
shy smiles across our faces meeting close
in summer's heat
ardor stirred the want in me
and flung my independance to the ground
but
alone
on my own
I had flourished
I had no needs
yet here I was
wanting you
in thrall of your sweet voice and earnest face
locked in your tender embrace
no needs had I
still... the longing insisted
desire persisted
and now two years have come and gone
our love has grown to fill the empty spaces
hidden deep
romance I never knew I missed
returned and swelled my broken heart
to mend
love filled my soul with passion
running deep
and as the world has turned once more
you and I have melted into one
ever thankful is my soul that I am no longer
~*~
alone
on my own
This is so heart felt. Tears were starting to come into my eyes. But I love it.
Nobody's ever really alone. The world's problems are now on my shoulders, but also on the shoulders of every other hero in existence.
What is life without poetry and adventure?
Noah... and Julie....
thanks so much for your replies....
I didn't mean this to be a sad poem...
It was about the year after my first husband died...
I met David 13 months after he died, but during that 13 months, I was so proud that I had managed to live alone and keep my life from falling apart.  I got married for the first time, a week after graduating from college... so it was a new experience for me to be on my own, and when I met David, I fell in love with him immediately but wasn't really sure about giving up my new-found independance....
but... I'm sure glad I did!
~ loving hugs
No problem. So many call me a hero, and what kind of hero just lets everyone face life alone?
Drum roll please:  IT'S SUPER DAVE!
Lovely poem and story Lyra.
If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.
Lyra, I LOVE this. Not only is the poem superb, but the thoughts and true feelings that you put into it are so precious. I am so glad that you found your sweet love. And, it sounds like you weren't even  LOOKING  for him at the time. I can truly relate to this, because this is how it happened with my Gary and me. I was also a widow when I met my Gary. I truly feel that the Keeper Of The Stars put us together. And I'm so thankful that He did. Thanks for sharing, sweet friend.
Love To All,
Ethel
No, it's not a sad poem, Lyra...but a hope-filled one, that so many can take to heart, and know that even when it seems like we can stand alone, God really wants us to have the happiness we so deserve...
and in your husband, you found what you didn't even know you were looking for...
No... this is anything but a sad poem.... it is a celebration of love and unexpected joy of discovering that a void you didn't know existed was so filled with warmth and wonder.
I know a story like yours... and it should fill every corner of PIP with hope.
Well Done Honey!!!!
Ethel... thanks so much for your reply, and I'm glad that things worked out well for you too
Martie... thanks for the anniversary wishes and I'm glad you enjoyed the pics
Karilea... I think the best way to find someone is to not look for them... if that makes any sense.  But you are right, I found not only what I wasn't looking for...but also what I didn't realize I needed and wanted... Thanks for your wise reply
Sherry... Thanks so much for your reply.  Maybe we should have a personal love story challenge so that we can learn about all of the wonderful love stories here at Piptalk.  I think that would provide lots of hope
