Storied Lines Oh, in shadowed recess, I, eyeful of knowing, sigh, as this lay of land before me, see, in shadowed recess, long harmony, for I have viewed long all that lies before the plain and eye of me… But should one see another’s face then there within is no disgrace for I have stood long by his side though from other woods did he abide still my wrinkled lines once young glowed in join of his smoother countenance, so… some once said that Abe walked here, and touched the lands he deemed so dear and I so young and deep in love laid young hand within his, gloved, he said “don’t worry, no need to fret” still the lines grew deeper yet…. He sent my love to win the war, yet my grief was soon too sore for blood was spilt there in the wood and boys grown men were gone, for good and saddened grew the widows’ face and deep their lines behind their lace… So should two faces seem to you to look back upon the reader’s view, I swear upon the mulch you walk… yes, we heard dear Abe once talk…. ~*~ ©Karilea Rilling Jungel 19 October 2002 |

Karilea, I love history. And I love this wonderful poem. Well done and so well illustrated. Thanks. If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. |

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Karilea, last summer I went into Illinois with my grandparents and we stopped in the park around Island No. 10 where Lincoln made one of his speeches and it feels wonderful to stand on ground where emancipation began to be proclamated! (sigh)n This is excellent, sweet friend, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Karilea, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! I enjoyed writing this one to the picture, so your reading, and your comments, are quite meaningful to me. Thank you all! |
