Nostradamus Did he see or did he guess? Was he a master of cleverness? Or is man such a fool that it was plain The map of life would be the same? Did he know his words would travel Across the centuries to unravel? Ambiguity was his key To lock each act in history And as events unfold with time Disciples seek each verse and rhyme For the seeds so shrewdly sown Sired from a language never known In his words we see a pattern A sage of Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn He knew the mighty trines and squares Would turn events and stir affairs And in the conjunction of the stars He weaved his fable from afar Into a veil that covered all The threads to pick at, cut, and maul And when the jigsaw fits the piece Excited scholars proclaim "He sees!" And all the time is it no more Than their composition of a diviner's score? |

(chuckling) Self motivated to interpret the things written as being prophecies and by finding all the occurances that might match on their estimations of what was meant... One could logically argue and perhaps prove with statistical studies that given enough ambiguity of statement and enough time they could match a random list of prophecies to events in history or current/future times. an interesting topic... and a good write... I enjoyed!!! |

ah...yes I forgot.... the metaphorical use of the suject could be applied to our everday life and how we listen and accept things as truth. How we might be mislead by a person or people or society..due to the intentional use of language and coincidences..( manufactured or real conicidences that is) |

the way you rhymed the first to lines is what is clever. the poem is pretty cool. nothing especially intriguing but your rhyme scheme is good. your meter at times however gets choppy and actually hurts the flow of the poem. |

capt hair: or one could just rember that history repeats itself, then read a history book and project past events to the future with appropriate vagueness. he was a scholar and well read man. "tis the doom of men that they forget." |

majnu.... yes that approach would in all probability increase the odds for "hits" on a prophecy... I disagree a bit however with your evaluation of the poem. |

I really enjoyed this one, dear lady - and contrary to other critiques above, I stand in awe of Nostradamus, who I personally believe to have been a great seer. Your lines reflect this, and weave the story in poetry that must have taken a lot of thought to 'hang' together. Congratulations !!!!! |

Of course you're right. As the modern day "seers" who know to be ambiguous and seek direction from the reactions of their victims. Nostradamous went a step further by including all of mankind in a predictable pattern of mostly hatred and war (throw in a few natural disasters which are bound to occur). WIWG...I'm very much taken with the content of this piece, and feel that you took a difficult subject, a controversial one, and gave it a smooth flow throughout. It kept me thinking, and I for one enjoy that!! Excellent, my friend!! Pen how you truly feel... |

WIWG, I like the way you melded speculation with possible truth. Well written. I thought it flowed. Kethry Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind. Unknown |

Etoile? I seem to remember a Quatraine that read; "The Beast and the Beauty will meet, on fields of blue When the River finds the Star The Beast will be conquered" Yes, I do believe so. *Kisses* Amore, ~Ed |

I've been disagreeing with m's assessments since day one. Lovely work, H. It gave me a little map of your mind, expanding the picture of you that much more. |
