Who has decreed that poetry,
must hold to shape and form?
And who did say, it IS this way
rhymed verse is still the norm?

Who made the rules if not some fools
too old to make their way?
Where is the proof the tales of youth
need metre for their say?

Who made the plan, to pen iamb
and count each beat on, off?
Who said get set, for triolets?
I'll bet it was some toff

Who was the hoon, who wrote pantoums
and said it must be so?
And who's the man, whose greater plan
said poetry must flow?

When I find this clown, I will bow down
and keep myself in check
lest in  disgrace, I smack his face
or maybe wring his neck

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown

hehehe...oh yeah that's me the ruler breaker, tell me what to do and I'll do something else, everytime. Although I appreciate rhyme, I'm inclined not to....

enjoyed the non-rhyme

My form is formless...
but that hasn't stopped me yet.

It's just one of my many handicaps!

Thanks for the reinforcement Kethry~

A perfect ending, Kethry.  Thanks for the smile

The stars will shine when I am gone,
the earth will turn on as before,
the gulls, still race along the shore,
the morning star, still kiss the dawn

Kethry,

Great; Enjoyed much.

I totally agree with this.....

But, the "proper" way is a great way to stretch my brain. Something I personally need to do. Haven't yet though, and may never...get to all the forms and meters......

I think some of the best poetry is non-rhymed....

Thanks, Hugs, Pat

What a hoot! What inspired this write? Were you trying to write a villanelle?!? LOL  I do know how you feel--well, at least some of the time!

Writing in a structured form, can be rather frustrating, but I often do enjoy the challenge. I have found that when I do try different formats, my poetry isn't "the same old, same old." I have a great deal to learn, but I am enjoying the process and I am thankful for the many fine teachers of literary form here at PiP.

~ happy holiday hugs

Ha Keth, you wrote yours in perfect cadence and rhyming, but you're so right.

Go get a gun and hunt the Deer (though I think he could explain it all)LOL

I envy your flow of words dear

Titia

Like scattered leaves...my words will flow
