Each day brings trials that we must face
(it seems at an increasing pace)
to to steal our smiles and in their place
leave worry lines upon our brows.

The marks of pain, the lines of fear,
often retained, year after year,
I've seen as plain as these words here
can still be overcome, somehow.

So what if odds cannot be beat,
banana peels beneath your feet
just make the victory more the sweet,
you've but two choices anyhow.

You could give up yet one more fight
throw in the towel you've held on tight
or once again with all your might,
dig in, you've still got fields to plow.

Wherein lies possibility
that none but those who strive may see,
those furrows on their tired brows
hold promise yet, right here and now.

Dr. this is very good poem. I like the way you wrote it, as well as the thoughts behind the poem. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Munda,
Thank you, dear lady. Watch out for those banana peels ( threw my back out once again , just the other day!). Hope all is well with your recovery, somehow, I get the feeling it is. Plow on !
Doc

Gentle Spirit,
Glad you enjoyed. As this was written, I was in excruciating pain with a pinched nerve in my lower back, sitting ( would you believe it?)at a sewing machine, trying to earn a living. Now, how's that for inspiration ?
Doc

garys'girl,
Thank you. It is all about perseverance. When the will is sufficient there is (I believe) very little that cannot be accomplished. It may take forever, but what is time compared to that which you truly desire?
Doc

Sy,
My friend, it has come to the point where very little of what I post is not in some way connected to people whose writings I have read here. As I am jotting things down,
I think back on others' musings and ask myself," what would this one say about that?".
I'd like to think in some way you had a hand in this. Oh, and by the way, a long time ago, I believe you wrote a very funny piece about people of diminutive stature, jumping up and down to see just where they were. I would love to see a repost.

smiling...I love this...as two choices, implies (at least to my mindset) four options, actually.

and possibly six, as I define doing nothing as a choice and therefore an option?

grin...I'll shaddup...enjoyed Doc!

Thanks again, my biggest hope is that I'm still learning now, as I was then.
Doc

Nan,
Thanks, oh great!, now I have to add time travel to your already un-limitless powers!
