I feel closer to you
on these nights when
wind and rain
touch this glass face,
and your Cherokee blood
drums a spirit song
through my heart

I wonder sometimes,
if you know
my pen is seeded
in the fields of your words,
nourished by your sun
and the food of your soul--
I write you
over and over again,
trying
to keep you close;
hearing you, hearing you,
I never stop listening

and I still have
so many questions
needing answers
but the one, oh the one,
waits an answer;

you once told me
I would dance
on the moonstone--
am I, Grandfather,
meant to feel the music
of that silver place
forever alone
with no earth
beneath me?

where is the word-wind
of your spirit sky?

embrace me

Hanging on...to hope, to culture....the glass face, the planted pen.....when you dance that dance the earth won't matter. Enjoyed

This is beautiful, and reminds me of my own Grandfather.  Thank you for sharing these thoughts with us here...~~S~~

Pen how you truly feel...
it is a safety-valve for the soul!

Sandpiper, this is so lovely, it has a tender haunting feel to it. To explain that phrase is difficult for me, I don't understand it, but it seems to depict the sensation I receive when I read this.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.
