The Scale of Truth

I weigh each word upon a scale.
For in each word there is a tale.
A tale of understanding hence
It changes with each sounds dispense.

What means to me does not to you
Each ledger is of different hue.
And therefore it is hard to speak
And even harder when we seek

If what I say to you falls short
And often brings about retort.
Keep in mind each word appease
Outside of you may not so please

And though we speak a common wish
It often seems to cause anguish.
And this is what so ebbs the tide
Although we do not seek to hide

So weigh each word upon a scale
For in each word there hangs a tail.

There certainly is, Mr. Seymour. Most of the time, the complete meaning of one's words is never revealed........

hey Sy... question for you... you mean tail or tale? I'm reading this seeing letters running around with a tail hanging out... could be because I just read Barry's rat story and am still grinning...

Thank you for the read and nice comment.

Cpat,
And thereby hangs the tail.
It's funnier that way but thanks, I changed it. LOL

Sy,

Lots of wisdom here. Especially the ledger. I do believe we can each only speak our truths, and unless our message is addressed personally to a specific someone, ~named~, then it has to be "buyer beware"....for other's thoughts, in poetic form, may hurt me, I swearing I am the target, when indeed I am only one among many, for the message may be an affirmation for someone else.

Love the title, for the scale of truth holds a weight of heartache and affirmation.  Thank you for this, it made me think.     I love that about you!

Warm regards, Pat

You are a poet of distinction and exception ...

Good morning, Mr. T.!

Your words aren't shot from the hip
No heated words rip from your lip
Your kind, wise words like honey drip
This nectar sweet I love to sip.

Now, I know.  I really know.
I know you did not make a show.
Nor did you wrap, nor did bow
but Yes, I know, I really know.

Somehow here in what you said
lingers more around my head
perhaps the day, perhaps the verse
perhaps in the lulled rehearse

but what you've said hits straight to home
so I'm keeping this for my very own...

Thank you Sy.

Now you tell me! Geez, and my friends call me "Mouth". Who knew I had to weigh my words!!

Just teasing Sy. This poem is loaded with wisdom and a good reminder to speak softly.

This tells a true tale ....and both tails could actually work here.  Meaning each word has something attached and you may or may not pull down the same meaning.

A most excellent tail of tales.

(big hugggsssssss) Wow! Oh Seymour, I agree with all my heart, there are so many hypocrites in the world who take the wrong word and make up the measurements when weighing them but only later does the truth come out and the verdict is made! (sigh) We must be careful how we choose our words, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Seymour, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Sy,
Mis-interpretation, excellent theme, the bane of many a poet, " how dost the lowly pen decry that all might see with naked eye?"
