"Do you play?" He seemed amused. Somehow? That just pissed me off. "No." I said. "But I can try..." He dropped change. I racked balls. There is something in that sound-- a sweetness of the balls' release. It is the rhythm of the gods. I bit my cigarette. I shuffled orbs accordingly by color now was plain to see that I had done this chore before... He laughed. I smiled. He chalked his stick. I took that triangle and shook and lifted form assistant to magician Look on stage a spotlight green-- six pocket graves-- a smile my only recompense. Don't you love the way they stand? The way they eye the prey? But he? He did not hesitate. He broke. I laughed. He sank the eight. [This message has been edited by serenity blaze (12-12-2002 05:13 AM).] |

I waited for more, and laughed when it ended so abruptly. Just as the game did. Well done, Serenity. You laid this out, and caught the reader. Brava! [This message has been edited by Sunshine (12-12-2002 11:15 AM).] |

awww, and ya love me too - don't try to lie about it. you know - i used to play in pool tournaments. was actually pretty good. mostly nine ball, though we playe eight ball once in a while for variety. i tried sharking a couple of times. but, sigh, the Aquarian in me can't stand to lose, even for a 'bigger game.' *shaking head* |

I've done similar. Deciding I'll break first and then either putting a chalk skid on the felt, bouncing the cue over the balls, or knocking in three balls at once ... including the 8. I'm so out of practice ... and only "okay" when not trying. Concentration is my enemy in pool. Yikes... |
