Icy Fingers

The touch was warm at last recall,
arms that branched and held me tight.
But now I sit in shades of dark
in chill of ice, alone this night.

These frozen thoughts need thawing out,
the raw of me in need of you.
I'll watch come morn, for sun to rise
and melt the ice that frosts my view.

I wait my time, for your return.
This longing holds 'til you are here.
Your passion warms my inner soul
and melts the ice when you are near.

Icy fingers that memory press
tomorrow's warmth in your caress.

M

Like all of your work, Maureen, wonderfully, skillfully penned.  Take care and an early Merry Christmas to you.

the earth will turn on as before,
the gulls, still race along the shore,
the morning star, still kiss the dawn

Nice images--beautifully written bittersweet--enjoyed!

Alan, are you really right next door...I peeked through the  window and didn't see you there thanks.

Thank you Sue, I borrowed the picture from another although my trees looked like that too.

bslicker, that is a beautiful phrase..and in a way it is a poem all by itself.
Thank You.

BC...I am trying to keep warm in thought *s thank you

Ethel, yes, there are times when the cold outside brings the warmth from inside of me into words.

Michael, I appreciate your kind words and hope all is well. I hadn't seen your name lately on here. Have a wonderful holiday season.

inkedgoddess, some of the trees will lose their branches and others will gain strength.

fishop, thank you *s

passing shadows, actually it may sound longing..but it isn't sad...none of my poems are really sad..just moody..or thoughtful and are on the borderline of happiness. I am waiting to cross that line.

Sandpiper , thank you *s  Do you know what..your quote is exactly what happened to me 5 years ago..."Poetry arrived in search of me...And something started in my soul."
