Personal Preference By Larry Chadwick I preferred you in living color, But I’ll settle for black and white. It’s just that having you gone, Doesn’t yet seem quite right. I preferred you as my royalty, The father who was my prince. But I’ll settle for what I have, And be grateful for my prints. I preferred you at remote risk, Of ever really being framed. But I’ll settle for how it is, On the mantle in my picture frame. I prefer that life go on day by day, Even when having you is what I prefer. But I’ll settle for what I have, All these memories of who you were. October 12, 2002 If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. |

Your father lives on in your memories of him. He is loving you from above as you are him from below. You write from a well that is rich and full of love and joy, pain and sorrow...all the experiences and memories swirl around in your heart and soul. When you draw from this well, you create heart warming poems such as this. Linda |

Larry... Your emptiness is so very present in this heartfelt poem but I believe you are hopefully coming too terms with your loss and accepting that which you still have. Take Care Paul |

Ethel, And he told me so often. Thank you. You are very tender hearted yourself. I appreciate you so much. Paul, This poem was an effort to express my loss mingled with my desire for life to go on. And to reflect that while he is gone I have my memories to keep him in my heart. Thanks Paul. Lyra, Thank you so much. You are a good friend. RS, Oh good. I had hoped it was exactly that. Thanks. Dawn, Thank you for that. I can hardly wait. If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. |
